Health and Safety training is something that no company should ever be relaxed about. Yet it’s so easy for it to slip by the wayside when we’re crunched by seasonal deadlines or financial restrictions. But we need to constantly remind ourselves that people are our most valuable resource and that Health and safety training is critical for everyone in every job they do.
Individuals heading out into the field for the first time need to know more than just science – they need wilderness training, first aid and CPR and even bear training, just to name a few. All of these key areas are sometimes overlooked by companies – not necessarily on purpose or even over the long term – because time and resources are short.
But if you’re just starting out in field operations – or even if you’ve been out in the field for a while – make sure that you’ve received the required Health and Safety Training for your job. It you haven’t; make some noise. Make your employer take notice.
We need to always keep Health and Safety at the forefront of everything we do – we owe it to ourselves and to our peers to always be talking about it, thinking about it and doing it.
